Who are we?
Phoenixville's Community Watchband is comprised of residents from the Northside and Southside neighborhoods of Phoenixville interested in improving life in their community by working with police and code enforcement departments to report crime and unsafe housing conditions. We meet with the Police Chief and Codes Enforcement every month to review neighborhood issues. Please feel free to post your concerns at our Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Phoenixvillewatchband
Our Mission Statement:
To be an extra set of eyes and ears for our Police Department & Code Enforcement. We do not get involved in any situation; our job is to observe & report.
Northside Meetings: 1st Monday of every month, Bethel Baptist Church, 412 Fairview Street, 6:30pm
Southside Meetings: 1st Tuesday of every month, Phoenix Village Arts Center, 207 Bridge Street, 7:00pm
All are welcome! The Broken Windows Theory:
Crime is the inevitable result of disorder. If a window is broken and left un-repaired, people walking by will conclude that no one is in charge. Soon, more windows will be broken, and the sense of anarchy will spread from the building to the street on which it faces, sending a signal that anything goes. In a city [or borough, or neighborhood, or town], relatively minor problems like graffiti, public disorder [like litter], and aggressive panhandling, are the equivalent of broken windows, invitations to more serious crimes.
